Never did I ever think that I would find myself in my fifties needing to lose a lot of weight. Afterall, I fought that demon in my early forties, and I thought I won when I took up cycling. It wasn’t that long ago that I rode 120 miles a week on my Pinarello carbon fiber dream; she is a beauty, bright pink and very stylish. Together, we often participated in long rides upwards of 50 miles at a time. I loved getting out on the weekends. It felt like I was taking a road trip every time I rounded the bend and passed Mugu Rock on the Pacific Coast Highway.
But like many, life took over and my Pinarello and I haven’t seen Mugu Rock lately. And, it might be a little dangerous if we tried it in my current physical condition. So, I decided to join a gym to help jumpstart the process. I also began a diet program because it won’t do me any good to do all the work in the gym if I don’t address the fuel I am putting into my body.
So, here I go again. Much to my relief, my muscle memory is kicking in. More than I believed it would because after all, I am 51 and not in the best of health. But, after working quite hard in the circuit style classes at the gym for a few weeks now, my body is not sore, and it is responding quickly. I have already lost a couple of inches and the progress is reassuring.
If you are in a similar place, I would love to hear from you. Tell me what things you are doing to stay in shape. Or, tell me what you think is holding you back because I can definitely relate!
When I was younger and worked as a food server I didn’t worry about my weight, but when I got older and got a job sitting a desk I started to gain the weight. I worked out a little but never really lost any of it. Now I’m 80 years old and retired and I dont do the moving around I use to. I have become lazy. I say I will start walking, but I say it is to hot now so I will wait until it cools down. I just don’t want to really, but I know I should. I don’t eat anymore like I use to. I don’t drink soda anymore and I don’t eat sweets anyway not very often. I eat oatmeal for breakfast which they say is good for the heart. I don’t eat lunch which is probably not a good idea because then the metabolism slows down they say. Then dinner I don’t eat much. So I guess I just don’t really care, but I will try to get better. That is all I can say no promises. I wish you success in your venture Kathy . I remember all those bike rides when I came to visit, you made me tired. We are older now so it may take a little more work. I know you and I know you will do great. Love you
