I live in central California in a home that was built in the 1960s. Not many homes of that era were built with central air conditioning, and ours is no exception. For the most part, we get along just fine. We have a couple of portable air conditioners in our home that take the edge off on hot days. However, this weekend was not normal. The temperature was reported in some areas at 114 degrees Fahrenheit. Our portable air conditioners were not keeping pace.
Imagine my family’s surprise when they found out that the meal I planned for family dinner on Sunday evening was homemade chicken noodle soup. That’s right. It was not a very good plan on my part. But in my defense, I did not know it would be 114 degrees!
The silver lining to the story is that my in-laws built an Additional Dwelling Unit (ADU) onto our home a couple of years ago, and they do have central air. So, we all gathered around their table to eat the hot chicken noodle soup in the wonderfully air-conditioned room. As a bonus, Sophia ranked my meal as a 10 out of 10! So, not all was lost.
